Money---NOW!!!
Jason Walker here. Talkin' money. Like it- Love it-Want some more of it!I've had it with working for someone else. I'm sick and tired of trying to scrape money to cover this check I wrote 2 days ago because I'd forgotten about the overpriced gas I had to buy with my debit card yesterday to get to work today! How many more pay periods till we hit that month with three paychecks? I'm not paid nearly what I'm worth and sick of having no time to spend with the people I truly want to be around. Sound familiar? It should, this is the case for you and most every person you come in contact with. At your job, at the store, at church, at your local hangout----the list is endless and the number of people who've at least considered trying to find other means to make ends meet has grown year after year since 2000. One study I read stated that over 2100 home based businesses popped up between the year 2002's end and the midsummer beginning of 2003. I don't know how you see it, but that's a helluva lot people looking for good opportunities in my book. Like you, I too am always looking for good money-making opportunities. I've read about and tried all kinds of home based business ideas. Some good, some complete duds!
Researching different options on the internet, brought me several revealing discoveries and I'd like to share those with you. First off---almost always you're told that running an internet based home business---is the fastest, easiest or simplest (depending on the sales pitch) type of business to get into because it's low cost, only takes a couple of hours a day to run and there's no overhead (stockpiling, warehousing product, employees and payroll, etc). While those claims may be true, some details are usually left out and discovered by you later---after you've spent a small fortune getting what you actually need to START this new business. Let's take a look at the aforementioned advantages separately.
First low cost, yes-compared to traditional business operation start-up cost where you'd need a building/location, zoning fees, supplies, furnishings, licenses and umpteen other requirements/necessities--an internet business is a huge savings bonanza. Not to mention advertising cost. With a traditional location-style business you are at least going to have to run one ad in the local paper and print up some flyers to announce your business, so advertising has to be figured into your budget. With an internet business, your advertising can be done through e-mail- costing you nothing. Of course there are other numerous ways to advertise your on-line business and the cost will vary depending on what you're trying to accomplish. You can even use the methods for traditional businesses, but more likely than not you'll want to save where you can when getting started. So, yes the internet/online business is cheaper to get started.
Now, let's focus on the hidden or slightly blurred side of this low cost internet business issue. There are a hundred thousand products on the web now that will show you how to get started with an online business. The hidden inside secrets usually start plugging away and selling whatever the person who sold you the ebook/report/audio-video file thinks is the best solution(s) for your business needs. This ranges from hosting website services to domain registration to software that makes webpages to more software that can help you link to other webpages to the monthly fee forums that answer all your questions. Each service is needed to really get an online business going, but the point I'm trying to get across is that there's a learning curve for each necessary portion of your business and a lot of the components are not what you and I would consider cheap. The old adage that "It takes money to make money" is alive and well on the web today. Don't be fooled.
Next let's discuss only takes a couple of hours a day to run. Uh-huh, riiiiiiight! What's not being said is that's after everything has been built and put into place. While it isn't like running a store where you have to stay on top of everything and everyone from open to close after you've gotten started, it is exactly like starting a traditional business where you have to lay a foundation to build on before you get to the couple hours a day part. There is a learning curve involved no matter what style of business is chosen. You'll have to learn about domain registration and getting web hosting, what ways are best to get traffic and visitors to your online site, the different kinds of sites for your different needs and the software used for your business. Fortunately, there's a ton of information to be gained online for each of the categories and most of it can be found for free. Most sites selling a product you need are more than happy to give you information about their product. Some sites will role it all up in one package and tell you step-by-step what to do or offer an educational newsletter or e-mail series for free, so you can make an educated decision. Information is what powers the internet in the first place and the site owners/webmasters will gladly give you useful information to make a decision to buy. The secrets of how to use the product to your best advantage is normally inside the product after you've purchased it. Once again, realize that there's a learning curve in doing business.
Lastly, no overhead. A truer statement could not possibly be made when talking about an internet business. Especially if the business is dealing with digital products. The only storing you have to do is saving a file on your computer. The only employee is the employer and that's you, baby! Start up requirements are normally having a computer and an internet connection and if you didn't have those or access to 'em, you wouldn't be reading this piece now. A second requirement might be a separate phone line, but not always. Payroll is absolutely a breeze cuz you ain't payin nobody but you!
Throughout this post I've tried to explain what to expect when researching internet businesses. I have put in countless hours of research myself and have spent a small fortune trying and testing different theories and products. I have found some at-home businesses that require minimal start up costs and others that require more. Some that could work perfectly if the person starting it had inordinate amounts of time---no where near that 1 - 2 hours a day claim that sold me on the idea in the first place!----and of course some opportunities that make you feel like you couldn't find your own ass with both hands no matter how hard you tried. I found others that wouldn't require too much of my time and would be extremely easy-to-do, but the cost to start up was beyond my reach at that particular time. What I've found with every opportunity I've looked at is---it takes money to get rolling and keep going every single time and with every single business. And I always think to myself, I am trying to find a way to make some money, not blow another paycheck. This sounds like a great opportunity, but I need money now for food and gas. The kids need clothes and books for school. If this bill doesn't get paid, no phone.......How the hell can I make some extra money? How the hell can you make some extra money?
